Our New Oriental
当1993年冬日的寒风凝固了中关村的天空
In the winter of 1993 , as the chilling wind
sealed up the skies of Zhong-guan-cun,
当简陋的教室里灯光刺破黑夜的禁锢
the confines of the night were pierced through
by the lights from the classrooms, simple and crude.
当第一批学员捧起散发着油墨清香的讲义
As students of the first class held up in both hands
lecture notes sending forth a pleasant scent fresh from print，
一个响亮的名字从此开始传扬
a resounding name came to unfold far and wide.
我们的新东方
Our neworiental,
像婴儿一样睁开眼睛迎接世界的阳光
like a newborn baby, opened her eyes
to greet the sunshine of the world,
在坚强不屈中开始茁壮成长
and stood firm to grow in health and strength.
知识与激情在这里燃烧
A place ablaze with knowledge and passion,
语言与梦想在这里回荡
and a stage echoing with languages and dreams,

Classrooms were flooded with applause and cheers;

Candle-lights spoke of a language striking deep into souls.
有多少学生走进过新东方的课堂没人记得
No record ever kept on our class attendance
只记得身背行囊的学子从世界的各个角落
for students from all over the world, rucksacks on back,
纷纷汇聚到这个激情四溢的梦工厂
gathered together in this dreamland, a cradle of aspirations.

Fifteen years is long enough to cover ninety thousand li;
十五年，弹指一挥间
Yet it is ephemeral enough to vanish in the flip of a finger.

Neworiental, on her 15th birthday,
已经从蹒跚学步的孩子
has grown up from a tottering infant
成长为能够经受风雨洗礼的青年
to a tempered youth capable of braving the wind and rain;

has grown out of a wanderer, distressed and at a loss,
变成了相信未来热爱生命的攀登人
to a climber faithful in the future and passionate for life.
不管遇到多少艰难险阻
新东方都不会停止前进的脚步
No difficulties or obstacles can hold back
her steps from forging ahead;
不管受到多少打击误解，
新东方都不会失去理想的光芒
No blows or misunderstanding
can dim the gleam of her ideals.
不管遭遇多少雷电风霜，
新东方都不会失去精神的力量
Thunderstorms may strike and frost may bite,
Neworiental will never lose heart in the fight.
不管获得多少荣誉赞美，
新东方都不会停止发展的思考
Whatever glory and compliments are bestowed on her,
Neworiental will never cease to seek further development.
我们从过去走到了现在
We have trudged from the past to the present
我们从现在要走向未来
and we are ready to stride into the future.
也许，未来的路会更长
Longer may the future path spread;
也许，未来的路会更险
and stormier may it lay ahead.
我们跌倒过，我们站了起来
We fell and we have risen to our feet.
如果我们再次跌倒，我们依然会站立起来
Should we fall again, we shall stand up a second time.
跌倒了，如果从此躺下，生命只会化作一堆卑微的尘土
To stay on the ground after one falls
reduces life into a lowly heap of dust.
跌倒了，坚强地站起来，我们便成为一尊顶天立地的雕像
Falling yet struggling to get up, we have stood upright,
a statue holding up the sky.
即使泪水模糊了我们的视线
Should tears blur our eyes
我们也决不失去前进的方向
We shall never stray from the direction of progress.
